I Cimotoidi sono mwewparassiti di molte specie di pesci ed hanno in genere un rapporto strettamente specie-specifico con il proprio ospitecite-ref-2[2].

Vivono sulla pelle, sulle branchie o nella bocca dei loro ospiti. Hanno un apparato buccale penetrante-succhiante e sono in grado di infliggere estese ferite, alterare la crescita e talora causare la morte dell'ospitecite-ref-3[3]cite-ref-4[4]cite-ref-5[5].
